College Admission Essays is written by potential students as a part of the admission process to gain admission in the college. Thus the importance of these essays is very great from the point of view of the students as it may decide their future career. As far as the colleges are concerned, there is a great variety in the way they perceive the importance of these essays. Some colleges takes College Admission Essays seriously and as the benchmark for a good student while some colleges may consider it simply as a part of admission process and might not give much impetus to it. Generally Arts colleges give very great importance to these essays while considering the admission of students but this might not be the case always and whether to give much importance to College Admission Essays or not is at the sole jurisdiction of the colleges. Whatever the case may be, students must be very serious about these types of essays as it provides them a platform to showcase their talent and knowledge.
College Admission Essays can be of two types:-
1) Either the topic of the essay is provided by the college itself, or
2) The candidate can write the essay on any topic of his choice.
In the former case the topics generally asked include career aspirations, reasons to join the college, academic accomplishments etc.
As these essays play a vital role in deciding the future prospects of the students, proper care should be taken so as to make these essays as much fresh and eye-catching as possible. It should be borne in mind that the admission officer might be receiving thousands of College Admission Essays and so he would be looking for essays that are novel and fresh rather than the same story repeated umpteen times albeit in different ways. Thus careful planning is a must while writing these kinds of essays. It is a worthwhile idea to jot down main points which needs to be included in the essay before beginning to write the essay. Too much bragging about oneself is a strict no-no as it will make the authorities reject the essay, only outlining the main qualities and accomplishments of the candidate in the essay is sufficient, as the authorities also have the resume of the candidate to see and they can easily see the academic accomplishments of the candidate in it. It is always a better idea to divide the College Admission Essay into three parts viz. introduction, body of the essay and the conclusion. The introduction of the essay should convey the general idea of the essay, the body of the essay should contain the main subject matter and the conclusion should contain the summary and any concluding remarks. Also if possible a little bit of humour would be just appropriate to make the essay an out-and-out winning essay. But one should not go overboard with humour otherwise the essay would appear foolish instead of being eye-catching.
Thus a candidate must take every care that his essay is among the best so that he can get admission in the college of his choice and one should never downplay the importance of College Admission Essays.
